A Ft. Hood shootout left 13 people dead and 30 wounded this afternoon as a Army psychiatrist opened fired.
Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who had been promoted to major in May shot a mixture of men and women, military and civilian. 11 people died on the scene, one more died later at the hospital. 30 more were wounded before Hasan was shot to death.
Hasan, 39,practiced for six years at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington before coming to Ft. Hood. Officials said he received a poor performance review at Reed. Hasan has recently received orders to deploy overseas, and was described as “pretty upset” over the situation.
No other motive is known, and officials do not suspect any terrorist threats related to this shooting or the safety of Ft. Hood.
